Wish - the song

Children at a Falmouth primary school have joined with composer Tim James and soul singer Ley Adewole to record a Christmas single in aid of the NSPCC.

When Tim James saw a copy of We Wish, a book of writing by Cornish primary school children that’s being sold to raise funds for the NSPCC, a light bulb went on in his head..  A couple of years ago Tim, who produces music for radio and TV stations all over the UK, had written a song called ‘Wish’. Its theme was so similar to that of the book that Tim got in touch with the NSPCC to suggest that he record a special version that could be sold alongside the book to raise money for the charity.

Two weeks and several phone calls later, Tim was setting up his high-tech recording equipment at King Charles Primary School in Falmouth, whose choir had been asked to practise the song.  Mixing the children’s voices with a vocal by soul singer Ley Adewole, who has two children at the school, he has created an irrestibly catchy single that looks set to touch the hearts of many people in Cornwall and beyond.

Tim, who produces music for radio and TV stations all over the UK, said: “I was bowled over by the quality of the writing and illustration in the book, and the song just seemed to fit with it so well that it would have been a shame not to link the two. Ley is a great singer who’s worked with artists including Stevie Wonder and Take That, and the children’s voices sound fantastic alongside hers.”

Maggie Marsdin, Head of Music at King Charles Primary School in Falmouth, said: “It was great fun recording the song and it got a sensational reaction when the children performed it live with Ley at the turning on of the Christmas Lights in Falmouth. It’s really thrilling for them to hear it being played on the radio and to know that thousands of other people are listening.”

Sandra Myers of the NSPCC’s West Cornwall Branch said: “Christmas is a magical time when, for some children, wishes really do come true. This wonderful song captures that magic in a very special way, and we’re hoping that it will help the NSPCC in our work to make a big wish come true – the wish for a world where children don’t suffer from cruelty and neglect. By buying the CD and the book, you really can help us make a difference – and they both make superb Christmas presents.”

The CD is available to buy at Asda supermarkets in Bodmin, Penryn and St Austell, along with the book. You can also purchase it directly from our web site.
